What sort of a course is English Unlimited?
It offers tangible progress towards practical goals
Through the goals and markers of the Common European Framework, English Unlimited sets out to provide achievable and perceivable progress which can easily be monitored by both teacher and student. Specific goals are listed at intervals throughout the coursebook, which comes with an ePortfolio that can be used interactively and filled in on a computer.
It teaches authentic and authenticated language
English Unlimited is firmly anchored in real life not only in its aims, but also in the means it employs to attain them. Thanks to its practical design and verification of language through the Cambridge International Corpus it achieves a high level of authenticity, including a large amount of unscripted audio and video material using real participants instead of actors.
It treats English as an international language
English Unlimited is designed for adult learners. It teaches students to speak and write British English, but at the same time it exposes them both to other varieties of English and to intercultural aspects of language usage. For example, it presents listening tasks which include a variety of non-native speakers (though care is taken to ensure that recordings are properly graded and do not contain errors), and Across cultures sections foster an awareness of cultural issues in relation to language.
It's comprehensive, but flexible
Units are organised as a "core", followed by linguistically or topically linked activities (the Explore section) and a final Look again page for review and extension. This means that English Unlimited can form the basis of courses comprising from 50 to 80 or 90 teaching hours. There is extra grammar practice at the end of the coursebook and a Teacher's DVD-ROM containing four worksheets per unit. The Self-study Pack offers students over 50 hours of additional language and skills practice material in the workbook and on the DVD-ROM.
The Starter, Elementary and Pre-Intermediate levels of English Unlimited will be available shortly. Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels will be published in 2011. Interactive whiteboard software is being published at all levels.
